About Elsie Tweed
Giving a Contemporary Twist to a Traditional Irish Craft
Elsie Tweed was built from a lifelong passion for design, heritage, and the belief that traditional Irish craftsmanship can be reimagined for modern era.
I’m Leona — mum, wife, maker, and founder of Elsie Tweed. At the age of eight I famously cut up my mother’s wedding dress to create my first design — creativity has always been part of who I am.

After Graduating, rather than following a traditional route, I bought my own loom and taught myself the art of weaving, developing my own distinctive style inspired by the landscapes of Donegal.
I love sewing i always say it was my hobbie long before it was my job. I teach kids sewings and run adult sewing clubs trying to bring these skills back.
Every piece is created in Donegal using 100% merino lambswool. Elsie Tweed proudly supports Donegal Tweed, it is one of Ireland’s most treasured crafts, celebrated around the world for its texture, character, and timeless style.
Elise Tweed is my way of honouring that extraordinary legacy — blending my family’s three generations of design expertise with the enduring beauty of Donegal Tweed.
Nature | Sustainability at Elsie Tweed
At Elsie Tweed, sustainability isn’t just a practice – it’s a passion rooted in my love for the natural world. Without the beauty of nature, there would be no inspiration for my designs. Every piece I create is a tribute to the landscapes of Donegal, where wild shores, rolling hills, and lush woodlands spark endless creativity.
Here’s how am trying to make a positive impact:
